DCeptette: Give It Up For Pops Version

  1. Marion Barry was busted at the Vista 16 years ago. A significant date in local history. By the twentieth anniversary, I promise to have a fully realized script for "A Barry Carol." It'll have kickbacks and buyoffs and cronies galore! The ghosts of Skeezewhores Past, Present, and Future! Anthony Williams as a young Bob Crachit type! And at the end, Marion Barry will give his fortune to a young boy with the orders to bring back the biggest rock he can find, whereupon he and Tiny Tim will get their blaze on, ending with Tiny Tim's immortal line: "Bitch set me up! Bitch set me up everyone!" [DCist]
  2. DC Metblogs now officially fully morphed into LiveJournal. Don't say you didn't see this coming. [DCLiveJournal]
  3. Forgive the inquiry and our ignorance, but is Desson Thomson the same dude as Desson Howe? If so, we can understand why he changed his name--a little birdie reports that Howe captained a soccer team in one of the Capital Area leagues awhile back and that no one wanted to play with him because he was a total spaz.
  4. Welbilt is looking for a bass player. Stage experience a must, also must be able to get head around the fact that they lost the Wammie, not to the Washington Social Club or Q And Not U, but to a band called the Rhodes Tavern Troubadours. [Craigslist]
  5. Sweet! GWU Basketball blog launched. Reppin' the real home team. [Colonial Hoops]

I just have to say that Wonkette has become FRIGHTENINGLY unfunny since you left. They need to get rid of Pfeiffer and move on to the main attractions, as it were, before all their advertisers bail. Because their readers already are...

Yes, Desson Thomson morphed into Desson Howe (complex story related to his search for his birth father, etc., related here).

in re anon's plaint: it's obvious gawker has inexpicably entered their mid-life "cradle robbing" phase, preferring to mix it up with the xbox360 set as opposed to aging atari 2600 rabble.

sans hinting at how many rings you'd find if you cut through our beloved dceiver with a chainsaw, one hopes he, OUR quasi-generation's most gifted vox sublimi, will find a new venue on which to spew his snarky brew...or increase this one's visibility, or have one hire him, etc.

...and soon.

Rhodes Tavern Troubadours are a great band. Check 'em out: http://mp3.washingtonpost.com/bands/rhodes_tavern_troubadours.shtml

RTT are a fine band indeed.

They are just not a rock band. At least according to any definition that seems valid in 2006...
