We all know that President Bush isn't capable of talking to the American people in any other manner than if we were all a bunch of eight-year olds, and for the most part, we adults have tended to suck it up and let it pass because we basically know the man is a churlish, idiot tool, and it's not like he's enjoying being President for even a minute anymore, so fuck him--we've all had our revenge. But today, when an actual child asked him a relatively decent question, she was way too innocent of spirit to take Bush's sarcastic reaction in any other way than badly.
"...the questioner was a 13-year old blonde-headed girl, Jessica Hackerd, from Brecksville, Ohio, who immediately broke into tears after making her inquiry.
"Mr. President, I know immigration has been a big problem in the U.S. And what is your next step with the immigration bill?" Jessica asked Mr. Bush, during a question and answer period after a speech Mr. Bush gave to a Cleveland business group.
Mr. Bush's sarcastic reply -- a wry "yeah, thanks" -- drew laughter from the crowd of 400. But the attention caused young Jessica, who characterized herself in an interview afterward as very shy, to immediately tear up."
Oh, well, way to go, asshole! And, good job, by the way, to the 400 people who laughed at this little girl. Classy.
Anyway, the President to his credit, after getting it through his think, dull, adamantium plated skull, tried to make amends. After speaking with Bush backstage, Jessica said, "He said it was really brave of me to do that and he said he probably wouldn't have been able to do that." Well, Jessica, the man wasn't brave enough to spend any meaningful time in the armed services, either, but don't you go signing up for any surges just to prove a point.
Asked, for comment, Vice President Dick Cheney remarked: "Tears...delicious tears...sweet, life-sustaining tears of children!" Then there was all manner of cackling, and not a small amount of drool.
