DCeptette: Heck of a job version.

  1. The first line of Anna Karenina is: "Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way." That just about sums up both the appeal of Gawker under Choire Sicha, Emily Gould, and Alex Balk and the conditions that have led to the breakup of one of my favorite blogging teams. They're really superlative writers, I enjoy their work immensely. (Choire especially: I've found him to be always ready with a kind word.) Frankly, in 2007, they managed to often transcend their source material. But they're done, now, the beat goes on, and I have the feeling that they've made the right decision. Here's hoping their talents don't stay hidden for long. [Gawker]
  2. At the other end of the spectrum, here's the sound of an index finger being endlessly raked across a pair of idiot lips: Summing up Mozzer's comments on his recent flap with the NME, Idolator concludes: "Wow, he could almost be talking backlash." Eh-bleh-meh-meh-blah! In a word: tired. Why can't the sub-competent bloggers be the ones having "long, dark, evening of the soul" vocation-changing epiphanies? [Idolator]
  3. Early morning, I get a text: "Attention all keytar lovers!" It's Amanda, directing us to the hawtness. And the only disappointment? Why can't the "Attention keytar lovers" texts be daily? [BlogS t r e t c h]
  4. It's not likely that you can take the words, "spearheaded the dumbest and most inappropriate thing the head of our organization has seen since he's worked here," put them in your resume and expect to get that choice promotion. But then, you probably don't work at FEMA. [Raw Story]
  5. OH NOES! Now you've gone and done it! Prepare to reap the whirlwind, motherfuckers, because you have managed to inconvenience Stephanie Mencimer! (Watch out for the flying poo poo!) [City Desk]
